the 3D Shape Search

Using the 3D search, geometric shapes or existing components can be used to search for other parts. If you click on "3D shape", you can choose between two basic types of search: uploading your own file or using a parametric template.

If you want to search with your own file, you can simply drag and drop the desired file into the left-hand field. If the format of the file used is not supported, the left-hand field appears in red. Only the file formats listed there will work.

Once the desired file has been uploaded, a new window appears in which you can make additional, minor settings before starting the search or adding the product to the search query. For example, you can select one of four search templates, include the size of the part in the search, ignore mirrored parts and select the unit of measurement.

Hinweis

In manufacturer catalogs, not all table rows are geometrically indexed by default. This means that if the "Include part size" option is activated, you may not get any hits even though there are similar parts. In this case, it helps to leave the option deactivated and then filter for a suitable characteristic in the results table. In the case of own parts catalogs, 100% of all table rows are usually indexed.

A 100% indexing can be carried out administratively at any time. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the following article in the general information section Color Search

The results displayed are sorted by match. You can also use the filter on the left-hand side to narrow down the results even further. Some of the results displayed do not appear to match the shape you are looking for, but they often have a configuration that applies but is not displayed directly due to conditions. If you click on the context menu (three dots), the match is then visible.

Parametric 3D Templates

Note

In order to be able to use the search via parametric 3D template, the classification 2.0 must have been installed via PARTadmin.

If you do not have your own 3D file to hand, you can use an editable template to formulate a search query. To do this, select "Parametric 3D template" and in the next step select a shape that is similar to the product you are looking for.

If you now start the search, you can use additional filters to narrow down the search to find the desired product.
